Save the Children - Employee of the Month

In response to a growing problem of child labor we created a poster used to promote an event that exposed the true nature of child labor through their artwork. These children are put to work in ways that drain childhood of joy and crush the right to normal physical and mental development, and often interfere with children’s education. Save The Children (India) believes this absolutely cannot continue. Not even one more month.

With the help of Charlotte based photographer Armando Bellmas we created a very powerful piece to expose who is really doing the labor. Thanks also to Ryan Coleman (Copywriter) and Susan Jassan of Catholic Social Services, refugee resettlement office. Susan and Armando organized the children and families involved and were everything to this project.

Moved to Minneapolis

We'll our move finally came and went. We have now successfully relocated the Jones family to Minneapolis. We are living in the Marcy Holmes Area and are seconds from downtown. Alexis, Milo and I are very excited to be here exploring our new home in the Twin Cities.

Everything of mine will stay the same and for the time being I will be self-employed! Stay tuned in because this is gonna get interesting.

Just finished a new identity project for The Players Racquet & Tennis Club in South Carolina. Owner Bryan Minton approached me to create a mark that would be an identity as well as a mascot for the club. He told me from the beginning that he would like the mascot to be a phoenix bird.

San Francisco

Just got back from a great trip from San Francisco. We saw all the regular tourist spots, meet up with friends from LA, ate incredible sushi and deserts, and last but not least got to spend a day at the SF MoMa. May 25 was Alexis and I's first wedding anniversary and we spent the evening at Aziza - the site doesn't look like much but the food was incredible. Over all we had a wonderful trip.

I was just given notice that my entry for the Nuclear Emergency brief of the Good 50X70 show was selected out of 4168 entries worldwide to be part of this years show. It will be exhibited at La Triennale gallery in Milan from June the 19th to July the 12th. This is the second year I have made the cut and I am very excited to have my work chosen by the likes of Massimo Vignelli and Woody Pirtle as well as many other distinguished jury members.

Just dropped off fresh today were some prints for Dash Courier. We walked into their office with the final prints and all the employees pointed to the wall where the posters we pitched the idea were hanging up. Needless to say they liked them. Humane Society - Guerilla Marketing

Starting with a simple idea it quickly became a really nice guerrilla piece for the local Humane Society. What I really love about this piece is that the viewer has the ability to pick up a flier immediately without it feeling forced. I really love the fact that the Humane Society can also update the flier as they need to and have the ability to put these houses in high traffic areas. I hope the Humane Society benefits from this fun and simple idea. Thank you Jeff and Ryan again for helping.

Chicago Trip

A few weeks ago we traveled up to the windy city for a short vacation of shorts. We got the chance to meet up with friends, ride the trains and see my favorite radio show Wait Wait Don't Tell Me from the great WBEZ Chicago. On top of all that we got to eat a late breakfast at the famous Golden Apple. This cafe is the ultimate 24 hr diner. The diner was made into a great radio story on This American Life called 24 Hours at the Golden Apple. It was a great trip.

Poor Planning + Bad Design = Good

Stefan Sagmeister made an appearance for his new book "Things I have learned in my life so far." Not planning ahead, I was stuck the night of with no tickets to an event that was SOLD OUT! My wife, Alexis, said to make some signs and we will just head down there early and see if we can snag some tickets. I not only got in from the grace of the AIGA but also got to pose for a picture with Stefan. After the picture he lit up a cigar and we talked shop for about 45 min, essentially delaying the lecture. I have to say it was amazing sitting with Stefan, someone I have followed through my studies and the start of my career. A most humble and gracious man, I felt as though Stefan was sitting in front of me wanting to learn from me. I hope to someday be able to sit with him again and give him more as he continues to give all us designers such inspiration.

Print Design Annual 2008

I just received word that my piece for the HOPELINE Network was chosen to be one of the pieces featured in the 2008 Print Design Annual. The idea behind the poster was to bring attention to the record number of soldiers coming home from war and killing themselves. This is a very serious matter and it seems only a few are taking note of these heroes. Once they are back from taking care of us we need to return the favor and take care of them.

I got married!

Well I took the big leap and I couldn't be more happy. Alexis and I were married by our brother in-law Adam Vandy amongst friends and family at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Asheville. It was a great ceremony with music and laughter all throughout. I hope everyone enjoyed it just as much as I did. Everyone says that it flies by and you don't remember a thing but I have to say I stood in the middle of our reception and can't even express the feeling I had while surrounded by everyone who loves both Alexis and I. There was an energy in the room that I have never experienced. Looking over to find our friends and family mingling and making plans for the long night ahead with each other I guess I really can't imagine things going any better.

Our poster for WWF entitled "Toes" was selected as one of the winners in the global warming category.
